This is my favorite time of year…everything is fresh and new, the birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming! AND longer, warm days ahead!
Perfect time to spring clean. As a rule, I always try and keep ahead of deep cleaning. What does that mean? It means that I try to deep clean a drawer or section of a closet once a week, throughout the year. I don’t want to overwhelm myself, so I keep it manageable. But, Spring is the best time to kick things into high gear.
I try and help my clients with this as much as possible. When starting a new interior project, I suggest to my clients to really take a hard look at what you have and what you really want to keep. It really helps if you have someone who is objective, to help you edit your things. Whether it’s artwork, accessories, clothing or furniture; ask yourself if you are hanging on to this item for sentimental reasons (your Grandmother gave it to you, but you really don’t like it) or does it really serve a purpose? Make 3 piles: 1) Must keep 2) Not sure 3) Donation. Be brutal! Donate some of those things that have been cluttering up your space for years. I promise, you’ll feel so much better after you look at the items that you truly cherish! It’s just like getting a great new haircut!
